CARAS E CORES
"Caras e Cores," Matheus Goulart's inaugural solo series, derives its name
from the Portuguese words for "faces and colors." This collection represents a
journey of self-discovery for the artist, who has been painting faces since
childhood. The inspiration for this series stems from a profound moment of
self-realization when, amidst the complexities of life in New York City,
Matheus found himself unable to recognize his own reflection in the mirror.
Faced with this existential dilemma, he turned to painting self-portraits as a
means of reconnecting with his identity and navigating the intricacies of his
inner world. Through "Caras e Cores," Matheus invites viewers to explore the
rich tapestry of human emotions and experiences, as reflected in the vibrant
array of faces and colors that adorn each canvas.
